Filipino Spirit

Our Filipino friends have taught me so much about rejoicing in trials and being content with what we have.

As you know, a typhoon went through Manila on Saturday. It was the worst rains they've had in 40 years. There has been much flooding, loss of possessions, home, life.

Today, the administrator from Faith Manila campus sent an update on how they all are fairing up there. He included this quote from a Filipino colleague when asked by her supervisor how she was doing.

"We are fine sir. Our appliances are floating around the house downstairs. I went to my sisters place and it was the same. The good thing is, there are plenty of fish to catch!"

This demonstrates the tremendous Filipino spirit which I admire so much.

Come and Join....

I love when we have staff meetings and people share about the translation work they are doing. Twyla Paris's song "Faithful Men" goes through my head.

It is so humbling and amazing to be privileged to share in this work.....

"Come and join the reapers,

All the Kingdom Seekers,

Laying down your life to

find it in the end.

Come and share the harvest,

Help to light the darkness.

For the Lord is calling Faithful Men." (and women).

Boat Trip

Yesterday our mission group had a day trip to snorkel and spend time at the beach.
When we arrived at the dock we noticed the sea was rough.
Kurt was in the boat about 5 minutes and said he couldn't go the rest of the day because of all the waves. So he stayed home.
It was a very rough, wavy ride on the way out to the first snorkel stop.

A few people, including Ben and Mikayla, got sea sick.

But after the first snorkel stop people were feeling better.
We all had a great day even if the weather was stormy.

It wasn't until I got home last night and searched news on the internet that I found out while we were in Davao Bay boating a typhoon was hitting Luzon (the island Manila is on).

Praise God for His protection.

Stormy Seas

Needless to say, a few times as we were traveling across the bay the hymn line "...when sorrows like sea billows roll....." went through my head. But regardless of the boat rockyness "...it is well with my soul."

Friends

Jake provided wonderful praise and worship music on his guitar.
He has a great singing voice.

(p.s. I have a photo album of pictures from the trip at my Facebook account!)

Haiti

I am very pleased with the quality education our children are receiving at Faith Academy.

The high school building of Faith Academy

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of watching 4 high school freshmen present a short report on a country they were studying.

Danielle presenting her country. Mikayla and Grace helping hold
poster for her presentation.

Danielle's Mom setting up food from the country Danielle talked
about. (I forgot which country she did!)

Mikayla presented on Haiti, the poorest country in the western hemisphere.

Mikayla sharing her presentation with a powerpoint.

Each student was to bring in some food from that country. Mikayla asked me to bring it to class,We had banana fritters, corn fritters, and Haitian cake.

The 9th grade world geography class

Joshua and the Big Wall

The 2nd grade class presented a reinactment of Joshua and the Israelites walking around the wall of Jericho as God commanded them.
Reggie Miller, the 2nd grade teacher, presented a good challenge to the elementary students and adults to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength." Mark 12:30

Joshua 1:7 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your
mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."
